Reader Mode

Paste any article HTML to strip clutter and open a clean, distraction-free reading view. Adjust the font size, switch between light, dark, or sepia themes, and listen with built-in text-to-speech. Everything runs in your browser.

Article HTML:

Paste the complete page source (Ctrl+U in most browsers to view source, then select all and copy).

How It Works

Reader Mode uses Mozilla Readability — the same engine behind Firefox Reader View — to identify and isolate the primary article body, discarding navigation, ads, sidebars, and other boilerplate.

Steps

Paste HTML or enter a URL: Provide a full page source or a URL to be fetched through a CORS proxy.
Extract: Readability scores every content block, picks the main article, and extracts title, byline, and body.
Read: The article opens in a full-screen overlay. Use the toolbar to change the theme, adjust font size, or start text-to-speech.
Text-to-speech: Click the speaker icon. The browser reads the article aloud using the Web Speech API and highlights the sentence being spoken.

Privacy

All processing happens in your browser. utils.com never sees the article text. The only network request is the optional CORS proxy fetch when using the URL tab.

Embed This Util

You can embed this util on your own site as a widget. Adding ?embed=1 to the URL loads a compact version with just the tool itself; no header, menu, or documentation. Paste this snippet into your HTML:
